Deputy: Jennifer Fowler - 01245 222834
Signing-up forms: Available at the monthly meeting.
Costs: Payment in advance for all visits, preferably by cheque, as we need to know numbers for a host’s catering arrangements, and to ensure we have sufficient money to cover any coach costs.
Car share: If you have a car and are willing to drive locally, please indicate when you sign our lists. All passengers contribute to the drivers' expenses.
Meetings: We have eleven meetings a year usually on the fourth Monday of the month. However, if this falls on a bank holiday or the chosen garden is not available we will rearrange the date, often to the fifth Friday.
In January and February, we have illustrated talks on varied subjects. These take place at Smythe Hall, Stow Maries at 2pm and are shared with the South Woodham Ferrers U3A Garden Group.
The Group: The Garden Group was one of the original groups started when Blackwater U3A was formed. It is intended for those interested in all aspects of gardening and who enjoy garden visits. We generally arrange two coach visits each year, sometimes a whole day, sometimes a long afternoon.
Other garden visits are more local, usually recommended by the National Garden Scheme, and we travel by car share. Other activities in the year include a plant swap, perhaps a quiz and a ‘Hands on’ demonstration. At present, we have about sixty-five members and we welcome all newcomers and are a very friendly group. Most of the gardens we visit do not have a restriction on numbers. Details of forthcoming visits are in the monthly newsletter, so please check the times and meeting places.
